Procedure to send sms
- Open up SMS Length Calculator: Fit Your SMS in the Character Limit (messente.com)
- Paste in the sms message.
- If the website says the encoding is “Unicode”, check in the green “Detailed view” table for dark green characters. Eg long dashes, fancy apostrophes, fancy quotation marks.
- Change these characters to plain text until the encoding becomes “7bit”
- Remove any unnecessary double spaces, line feeds.
- Once you are satisfied with the text message, copy all the text in the message box.
- Open up a new email message in Outlook.
- Click on the message body pane, press Control-A to highlight all contents of the current email (usually the signature). *Don’t just use the mouse to highlight, this can leave unwanted Unicode characters behind. Use Control-A
- Press the Delete key to clear out all contents of the message.
- Paste in the prepared SMS message.
- Select and copy the recipients from the contacts spreadsheet “SMS Address” column that you wish to send to, paste this to the “To” field of the email message. *If there are recipients from other tabs, you will need to repeat for each tab.
- Leave subject blank.
- Change the “From” field to admin@bama.net.au. *if From field missing, click on Options menu, then click on “From” in the Show Fields section.
- Click Send. Outlook will complain about having no subject, click on “Send Anyway”.
- Go into the contacts spreadsheet and add new column to the far right. Type in the sent time.
